Due to popular demand, Red-Zone Report is coming back to WordPress.
We enjoyed a short stint with MVN.com. And we still love the boys (and gals) over there, but we’re glad to be back at WordPress.
And we’ll also be adding someone to the RZR staff. We’re proud to welcome journalist Larry Leonard. Larry will be providing his word on sports, mostly college, via his “Upper Deck View.”
NFL.com is reporting that Clevelend Browns WR Dante Stallworth has been suspended for the entire 2009 NFL season after pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter.
Stallworth will be suspended without pay, and will not be able to participate in any team activities until he is reinstated.
“Your conduct endangered yourself and others, leading to the death of an innocent man,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was quoted on NFL.com. “The NFL and NFL players must live with the stain that you have placed on their reputations.”
Other veteran wideouts on the Browns roster include Josh Cribbs, Braylon Edwards, Mike Furrey and David Patten.
Since we’ve been away for the last day and a half, we’ll highlight some of the biggest moves in free agency, the NFL Draft, and other NFL News:
Michigan defensive tackle Will Johnson put on a show at his campus Pro Day workout, bench pressing 225 pounds a mind-blowing 47 times, PFT has reported.
According to The Boston Globe, the Patriots have retained defensive linemanMike Wright, after both sides agreed to a four-year deal worth about $7.5 million. The deal also reportedly contains approximately $10 million in play-time escalators.
Jaguars receiver Matt Joneswas released from jail Saturday, a day earlier than expected after Jones was serving a week-long stay after violating his plea agreement.
The Oakland Raiders have come to terms with free agent Khalif Barnes after weeks of hot-and-cold talks between the team and the former Jaguars offensive tackle, John Clayton of ESPN.com is reporting. The deal was believed to be dead when the Raiders said they were no longer interested. Either Barnes or the Raiders gave in — likely Barnes after receiving very little interest from other teams. But financial terms have not yet been released.
Free-agent WR Joey Galloway has signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots, Profootballtalk has reported.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Dante Stallworth was detained but not yet charged after his alleged involvement Saturday in a car accident that led to the death of a 49-year old pedestrian. However, per PFT, the charges are expected. I’ll leave the verbiage up to legal-team Florio:
As authorities in South Florida wait for the results of a blood draw performed on Browns receiver Donte’ Stallworth, a source with knowledge of the investigation tells us that prosecutors are preparing an indictment for DUI manslaughter, under the assumption that the results will show that Stallworth’s blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit of 0.08 percent when he collided with a pedestrian…
Former Raiders defensive back and kick-return specialist Chris Carr has inked a two-year, $5 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens. Carr spent last season with the Titans.
The St. Louis Rams have bid adieu to wide receiver Torry Holt. The 11-year veteran was due a $1.25 million signing bonus on March 17, and per Rotoworld the move saves the team $8 million in cap space. Holt’s release was expected – especially after the team chose not to invite Holt to their off-season conditioning program.
The Detroit Lions completed a blockbuster trade Saturday, sending defensive tackle Cory Redding and a fifth-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for five-time Pro Bowl linebacker Julian Peterson.
Adam Caplan of scout.com is reporting the Denver Broncos have reached a deal with TE Jeb Putzier, who spent last season with the Donkeys.
ESPN is reporting that the Dallas Cowboys have released wide receiver Terrell Owens. The move again comes as little surprise, given Owens’ penchant for constantly whining about not getting the ball and jealousy over others.
In our view, possible suitors for Owens include the Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and of course, the Oakland Raiders. The New York Jets may also be a darkhorse candidate.
Washington is always looking to get splashy free agents in and have them flop (see Deion Sanders, Jason Taylor). They also seem to have swung and missed in a big way with last year’s draft picks Devin Thomas and Malcom Kelly at wide receiver.
The Bucs are in desperate need of a number 1 receiver. Michael Clayton was/is a flop, Joey Galloway is about 100-years old and Antonio Bryant needs to prove he can be reliable for more than one season.
The Raiders are still looking for a dependable receiver to team up with young quarterback Jamarcus Russell. Ronald Curry is gone and the only worthwhile receiver on the roster is the diminutive Johnny Lee Higgins. Javon Walker and Ashley Lelie are worthless.
The Jets have released Laverneus Coles and could look for a legitimate #1 guy to put opposite Jerricho Cotchery or Brad Smith. Jets GM Mike Tannebaum also is known for bringing in high profile free agents and New York may be the only place that’s “bigger” than Owens.
Keep checking back for updates.
By the way, I apologize about the apparant disappearance of NFL Draft content on the site. Life got in the way (specifically Aunt Sallie Mae)–I promise I’ll start back soon. (Hey, if you keep reading the site, maybe we can make money off of this, then I can quit my jobs!)
Update: The Cowboys have also released SS Roy Williams, per Rotoworld.

The AP has reported that former Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has been approved for release to home confinement.
Vick will be placed on an electronic monitoring system and will only be permitted to leave home for activities approved by his probation officer, the AP has reported.
So he isn’t completely off the leash. Per PFT, Vick is scheduled to be freed July 20.

On the 6:00 p.m. Sportscenter, ESPN’s John Clayton reported that the Indianapolis Colts have released wide receiver Marvin Harrison. The move was reportedly announced by Colts owner Jim Irsay at a press conference.
The move comes as no surprise and means that former Ohio State wide receiver Antonio Gonzalez will assume a starting role opposite Reggie Wayne.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Michael Crabtree said the stress fracture in his left foot has been there for “about a year.”
“It’s never caused me any pain. I can play with it the rest of my life. ”
The news of his injury came Saturday, after Crabtree’s physical at the NFL scouting combine revealed the stress fracture in his left foot. Given the news, it was assumed Crabtree was not going to run the 40-yard dash at his Pro Day workout March 26.
“I don’t know where the report came from,” Crabtree was quoted in the Dallas Morning News. “It won’t stop me from running. I’m going to run.”
Update: Crabtree addressed the injury further, stating that after his personal workout, he will opt for surgery.
Update2: Sirius NFL Radio has just reported that Crabtree is reconsidering pretty much everything that he previously said he’d do, including running at his Pro Day.
