Brunell, anyone?

August 31, 2007 Eric Zimmett Leave a comment

WUSA9.com is reporting that Washington Redskin’s quarterback Mark Brunell is expected to be traded to the Seattle Seahawks, citing a source close to Brunell, and that a deal could be completed within the next few days.

Days earlier, Brunell name was thrown around in trade rumors with the Atlanta Falcons, according to Profootballtalk.

Unnamed sources–that’s an important phrase to consider when dealing with trade rumors (or any rumors, really), because often the “source” is unnamed for a reason: he or she has an ulterior motive. Why else would the source ask to be unnamed?

You see, if staff person X for the Redskins leaks a trade rumor to a radio/TV/Internet medium, then Brunell’s stock rises. Then other teams believe, if they want Brunell, they must act now.

We’re not saying that’s the case with these Brunell-trade rumors, but it’s something to consider when an unnamed source is involved.
