Sapp, Graham fined by league

Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp has been fined $5,000 by the league for a below-the-knee hit on Miami quarterback Trent Green Sunday, while Chicago Bears defensive back Corey Graham was hit with a $7,500 fine for a “horse-collar” tackle.

Sapp’s hit did not result in an in-game penalty, but the league reviewed the play afterwards and found it to be in violation of the rules.

Henry faces fine if suspended

ESPN.com has reported that if Denver Broncos running back Travis Henry is suspended by the league for violating the substance abuse policy, he may also lose his signing bonus.

Henry signed a five-year, $22.5 million deal with the Broncos in March. His contract includes a $6 million signing bonus. According to language in the contract, per ESPN, Henry will be fined whatever portion of the bonus he has been paid if he is suspended for a drug violation.

According to ESPN, Henry has paid $2 million of the signing bonus to date.

NFL hands out two more fines

Chicago Bears DT Tommie Harris and Cleveland Browns S Brodney Pool have both been handed $5,000 fines from the NFL for unecessary hits last weekend, ESPN has reported.

Harris was fined for what the league called a “major facemask” on Kansas City Chiefs QB Damon Huard.

Pool’s fine was the result of a helmet-to-helmet hit on Cincinnati Bengals WR Glenn Holt.

NFL fines Vince Young

Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young has been fined $7,500 by the league for throwing the ball at an oppenent Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, ESPN has reported.

According to Young, Colts cornerback Kelvin Hayden pushed him after he was out of bounds. Young then proceeded to throw the ball at Hayden, and was flagged fro unsportsmanlike conduct.

“Things happen. They’re always going to flag the second guy,” Young said following the game Sunday. ”They caught me in the act and that’s why they flagged me. That’s the ref’s game, they’re going to do what they have do to call a good game.”

Owens fined for celebration

Dallas Cowboys WR Terrell Owens was fined by the league for mocking the New England Patriots spy scandal during a touchdown celebration against Miami, ESPN has reported.

After hauling in a touchdown catch, Owens ran toward the goal post and pretended he was running a videocamera. The Cowboys went on to beat the Dolphins 37-20.

“It wasn’t even the fact I used the goal post as a prop,” Owens was quoted on ESPN.com. “They said I used the ball.”

Owens said the fine was “a good chunk of money.” A league spokesman told ESPN the fine was $7,500.

“Nothing’s worth getting a fine for,” Owens said.

Ward fined $5,000 for hit

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Hines Ward was fined $5,000 for a late hit and unecessary roughness on Browns CB Daven Holly, reports NFL.com.

Porter fined three game checks

Adam Schefter of NFL Network has reported, per PFT, that Commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to hit Dolphins LB Joey Porter with a fine of three game checks. The fine is a result of Porter’s pleading no contest to battery against Bengals tackle Levi Jones at a Las Vegas casino. July 20. 8:36 a.m.
