The Cincinnati Bengals signed RB Bernard Scott. Waived TE Matt Sherry, WR Mario Urrutia, QB Billy Farris and C James Smith
New York Giants signed CB Stoney Woodson and waived CB Rashad Barksdale.

ESPN is reporting that the Dallas Cowboys have released wide receiver Terrell Owens. The move again comes as little surprise, given Owens’ penchant for constantly whining about not getting the ball and jealousy over others.
In our view, possible suitors for Owens include the Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and of course, the Oakland Raiders. The New York Jets may also be a darkhorse candidate.
Washington is always looking to get splashy free agents in and have them flop (see Deion Sanders, Jason Taylor). They also seem to have swung and missed in a big way with last year’s draft picks Devin Thomas and Malcom Kelly at wide receiver.
The Bucs are in desperate need of a number 1 receiver. Michael Clayton was/is a flop, Joey Galloway is about 100-years old and Antonio Bryant needs to prove he can be reliable for more than one season.
The Raiders are still looking for a dependable receiver to team up with young quarterback Jamarcus Russell. Ronald Curry is gone and the only worthwhile receiver on the roster is the diminutive Johnny Lee Higgins. Javon Walker and Ashley Lelie are worthless.
The Jets have released Laverneus Coles and could look for a legitimate #1 guy to put opposite Jerricho Cotchery or Brad Smith. Jets GM Mike Tannebaum also is known for bringing in high profile free agents and New York may be the only place that’s “bigger” than Owens.

The St. Louis Rams Washington Redskins today released DE Jason Taylor. The two sides attempted to restructure his $8 million salary but were unable to reach a deal.
(Editor’s Note: When posting this story, like I often do, I had at least a dozen other things on my mind, one such thing was the more recent news that the St. Louis Rams had retained CB Ron Bartell, which you will read about in a minute. And that is why I incorrectly began this post with “The St. Louis Rams…”)
“Jason Taylor was a real professional during his time with the Redskins,” coach Jim Zorn was quoted on PFT. “He played hurt, but still gave his best effort to be prepared and play hard every week. We wish him and his family the very best.”
Taylor had a drop off in production last season with the Redskins, totaling only 3.5 sacks — his lowest since ‘99. The 12-year vet also started in the fewest games of his career (8).
Rotoworld has learned from the Tampa Tribune that the Buccaneers are expected to “heavily persue” the former AP Defensive Player of the Year (2006).

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have completed a trade with the Cleveland Browns for TE Kellen Winslow, for undisclosed draft picks, Sirius NFL Radio has announced.
The Bucs are also reportedly interested in making a trade with the Raiders for RB Michael Bush.
Sirius Radio reported that the deal between Bart Scott and the Jets was still up in the air, but at 12:03 Eastern Time, Rotoworld reported the deal is done, and is worth $40 million over five years.
The Bills are hosting WR Laveranues Coles Friday, Rotoworld reports. The Dolphins are also said to be interested in Coles…if the price is right.
The Ravens have landed CB Dominique Foxworth for $27.2 million over four years, with $16.5 M guaranteed.
The Redskins have released cornerback Shawn Springs, after failing to receive trade interest.
Update: Bart Scott is reportedly giving the Ravens a chance to match the Jets offer of four years and $40 million, per Newsday.

The Dolphins have signed FA safety Gibril Wilson to a five-year $27.5 million deal, Rotoworld rss has reported.
The Buffalo Bills released $49-million LG Derrick Dockery, taking a $5.4 M cap hit, but saving $26.25 million.

Rotoworld has reported, citing The Star-Ledger, that the Jets have released receiver Laveranues Coles.
Cole’s $6 million salary remains guaranteed and the Jets are reportedly open to bringing him back next season.
“We didn’t leave on bad terms,” Coles told The Star-Ledger. “It’s not out of the question that I could come back.”
Update: Profootballtalk has posted an interesting nugget on the Coles release: apparently, contrary to previous reports, Coles walked away from the guranteed $6 million to pursue other options, and potentially more money. So, as PFT so clearly put it “THE JETS OWE HIM NOTHING.”
Coles may find a team willing to pony up the cash in ‘09. But there are a few questions after the veteran wideout totaled only 850 receiving yards… while starting all 16 games… and he hasn’t seen 1,000 yards since 2006…and he’s entering his 10th NFL season…

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released LB Derrick Brooks, RB Warrick Dunn and wideout Joey Galloway, Rotworld has so kindly alerted me via rss message.
Looks like the Bucs are making a youth movement here. Their combined salaries likely played a factor, as the team saved $12.45 million against the cap, per PFT. More on this later…
The team has also announced the release of WR Ike Hilliard and LB Cato June.

Rotoworld has reported that the Kansas City Chiefs have parted ways with quarterback Damon Huard, linebacker Donnie Edwards and corner Patrick Surtain, saving the team more than $9 million against the cap.

The Oakland Raiders continued to purge their roster of nearly every player involved in last season’s spending spree by cutting OT Kwame Harris, Adam Schefter has reported.
Harris now joins DeAngelo Hall and Gibril Wilson as players that were one-and-done in Oakland (Hall was actually released mid-season, but I’m including him in this report so I could use that crafty intro).
The team is also rumored to soon be parting ways with receiver Javon Walker.
Walker is due an injury-guaranteed $5 million payment by March 3, after finishing 2008 on IR with a broken ankle. The Raiders would save no money by cutting Walker, it may only mean an extra roster spot and removing all memories of the failed acquisitions of ‘08. Schefter is reporting the move may come this week.
The Raiders also waived FB Justin Griffith. Per Schefter, the release of Griffith and Kwame Harris will save the team $8.3 million against the cap.
Griffith, a 6-year vet, started his career with the Falcons in 2003 and joined the Raiders in 2007. He was seldom used in the Raiders offense, but the six-year starter will likely draw interest from other teams in need of a dependable fullback.
Expect Griffith to receive calls from teams that don’t address fullback in the draft, possibly the Patriots, Jets, Bengals, Ravens or Steelers.

Albert Haynesworth DT Tennesee Titans - Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that Haynesworth will test the free-agent market.
Dre Bly CB Denver Broncos - The Broncos continued to dismantle their defense with the release of Dre Bly, per the Denver Post. Bly is the fifth Broncos defensive starter released this week.
