Baltimore Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome told the Baltimore Sun that the team has had “a couple of small conversations” with QB Byron Leftwich, the Sun has reported.
The Ravens are believed to be one of seven teams having talks with Letwich. The Ravens, however, are not ready to fully pursue the former Jaguar signal caller. Per the Sun, the Ravens don’t want to add a distraction to their quarterback lineup.
Michael David Smith of AOL Sports speculated Aug. 31 that the Kansas City Chiefs may have interest in Leftwich as their starting quarterback.
With the regular season less than one week away, the chances of Leftwich landing a starting quarterback spot are slim to none. Quarterbacks have spent training camp and four preseason games absorbing team playbooks and becoming comfortable with the offense. For Leftwich to be any higher than a second- or third-string QB, it will take a very desperate team…and the Falcons have already denied interest.
