McFarland placed on IR, out for season

The Indianapolis Colts have officially announced what has been rumored for the past week: defensive tackle Anthony McFarland is being placed on IR, effectively ending his season.

According to Len Pasquerelli of ESPN.com, Indianapolis placed McFarland on IR prior to their preseason opener Thursday at Dallas. McFarland tore his patella tendon during practice last Friday and underwent surgery Tuesday.

Rookie Ed Johnson started in McFarland’s place Thursday night and recorded two sacks.

According to Pasquerelli, other candidates for McFarland’s spot include three-year vet Darrell Reid, fifth-year Dan Klecko, and rookies Quinn Pitcock and Keyunta Dawson.
