Raiders will select… we’re not even going to guess
The Oakland Raiders hold the No. 1 overall selection in the 2007 NFL Draft and are on the clock. Players the team is said to be interested in include: JaMarcus Russell (QB- LSU); Calvin Johnson (WR- Georgia Tech); and Brady Quinn (QB- Notre Dame).
JaMarcus Russell is rumored to be the Radiers favorite, however, with the Raiders, one can never be certain. Other options include selecting Calvin Johnson with the first selection and choosing a quarterback in the second round.
The last time the Raiders drafted a quarterback in the first round was in 1991 when they selected Todd Marinovich, and we all know how well that turned out. The Raiders have drafted three QBs in the first round in franchise history: Eldridge Dickey, 1968; Marc Wilson, 1980; and, as we mentioned, Todd Marinovich in 1991.
If history is any indication, the team has fared a little better when drafting wide receivers with its first-round selection. Three receivers have been drafted by the Raiders in the first round: Mike Siani, 1972; Jessie Hester, 1985; and Tim Brown in 1988.
The Raiders have reportedly begun contract negotiations with Russell and Johnson. According to profootballtalk.com, the Raiders have also begun negotiations with Brady Quinn. April 24. 6:31 p.m.
